Sew Special Sewing Space: Deb Luttrell

Updated: Jul 16

Getting a glimpse inside a fellow quilter's sewing space is like taking a plunge into their world. Every sewing space is uniquely furnished, supplied, and organized differently and that is what makes it such a great resource for us, in the quilting community.

So today, we are SEW excited to take you into the stunning space of Stitchin' Heaven's very own founder and owner Deb Luttrell. Her space is guaranteed to not disappoint! But first, let's get to know Deb a little better!

How did you get started quilting?

My Mom taught me to sew when I was 13 years old but I didn't take up quilting until I was nearly 40. I was about to open up a quilt shop so I figured I'd better learn how to quilt.

If you are going away to a retreat, what are you packing in your quilting bag?

My quilting bag will include the basics, of course, like my Martelli cutting mat, my Tula Pink rotary cutter, and my favorite seam ripper that has been discontinued so I am careful not to lose it!

What project that you have designed are you the most proud of?

Wow. I've designed many, many projects. My latest is Waltzing My Tilda - a quilt that was designed so that I could have something made from one of my favorite fabric collections - Tilda!

Who is your sewing idol, or person in the industry that you admire the most?

There are so many in this industry that I admire so I can't say there is one particular one that I admire the most. I have known Tula Pink since the beginning as I was friends with her mother when we both owned quilt shops. It's been neat to watch her grow into the quilting powerhouse that she is and I admire how she has diversified. I also love Tiffany Hayes, Needle in a Hayes Stack, just because of her creativity and her willingness to share unconditionally.

What is your favorite thing about the quilting community as a whole?

I've been in business since 1996 and I can say that I have always been so happy I chose the quilting industry because of the amazing people I get to work with. The customers we serve by in large are giving and caring and creative. The vendors we partner with are there to help us succeed and they will bend over backwards to help us achieve our goals. Our employees are top-notch and make this a really fun place to come to every day

We hope this blog helped you get to know Deb a little better, some of her inspirations, loves, and passions.
